The View
The Television & Movie Wiki: for TV, celebrities, and movies.
Image:Thenewview.jpgThe View is a daytime television talk show on ABC which was created by Barbara Walters and premiered on August 11, 1997.
The concept of 'The View' is to showcases women's points of view on a variety of issues. The show opens each day with two segments of "Hot Topics," in which the women weigh in on the day's top headlines in politics and entertainment (originally there was only one segment of Hot Topics, but this was quickly expanded as it has always been the most popular part of the show).
The show, which airs live on the East Coast at 11 a.m. ET, is moderated by Meredith Vieira, with co-hosts Star Jones Reynolds, Joy Behar, and Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Walters, the show's co-executive producer, sits on the panel an average of three days a week.
Former co-hosts include Debbie Matenopoulos (1997-99) and Lisa Ling (1999-2002). Matenopoulos was fired by the show, whereas Ling left to host Ultimate Explorer on the National Geographic Channel.
The View was previously criticized because all of the hosts seemed to lean to the left of the political aisle. Thus the seat left open after Lisa Ling's 2002 departure, was filled by staunchly conservative Survivor contestant Elisabeth Hasselbeck.
