Sylk
The Television & Movie Wiki: for TV, celebrities, and movies.
Sylk was a supporting character in the 2001 movie Glitter. She is also a singer and was played by Padma Lakshmi.
Sylk can first be seen in the movie when she accompanies her boss, Timothy Walker, to offer a contract as background singers/dancers to Billie Frank and her friends, Louise and Roxanne. After the contract is accepted, recordings begin to take place, and the first new song that Sylk records is "All My Life". However, Sylk's vocals are deemed inadequate and she is ghosted by Billie. At first, Sylk isn't too thrilled with the idea, but naturally relents.
Later, Sylk goes onto perform "All My Life" to rave reviews at the nightclub DJed by Julian "Dice" Black. Dice is a bit confused at first, as he doesn't remember Sylk sounding like that. Not wanting to blow her cover, Sylk offers to show him concrete examples of her vocal performances. However, Sylk is then interrupted by a photographer who requests to take a picture of Sylk and the background singers/dancers. Sylk, however, objects and blocks them out of the picture, publicly declaring them as "only backup". Billie Frank, tired of the verbal abuse, goes onto humiliate Sylk by singing snippets of "All My Life", thus exposing Sylk. Sylk looks awkwardly at Dice, who then dismisses her without saying anything, and runs out to meet with Billie, whom he eventually lures away from Timothy Walker.
Later on in the movie, Sylk is seen with two new backup singers/dancers as they try to sing an Indian inspired tune. The results are not good. After the hospitalization of Timothy Walker and his subsequent release and murder of Dice, is it unknown what Sylk's current whereabouts are. It is often believed that she had switched record labels, but the movie has not made note of this.
