Her roles include Grace MacLean in The Horse Whisperer; Rebecca in Ghost World; Charlotte in Lost in Translation; Griet in Girl with a Pearl Earring; and Francesca in The Perfect Score. All of these performances garnered positive critical notice. She was nominated for two best actress awards at the Golden Globes in 2003, one for drama (Girl with a Pearl Earring) and one for comedy (Lost in Translation). She was also nominated for best actress for both of those films at the BAFTAs, and won best actress for Lost in Translation. Johansson was attached for a short time to the upcoming film Mission: Impossible III, but supposedly dropped out of the project after a dinner date with Tom Cruise and a roomful of Scientologists went awry. The official stance is Johansson dropped out because of scheduling conflicts. [2]

In July 2005, Johansson starred with Ewan McGregor in the Michael Bay-directed, The Island. It was her debut as the female lead in a mainstream action film. When the movie opened to weak reviews and an even weaker box office, the producers of the film accused Johansson of failing to connect or attract a mainstream audience.

On August 19, 2005, Johansson, trailed in her car by four SUVs carrying paparazzi, tried to escape by driving into the Disneyland parking lot in Anaheim, California. Her Mercedes struck a car containing a woman and her two daughters; nobody was injured in the fender bender, which was photographed by the paparazzi.

Johansson was featured in an advertisement campaign for the Calvin Klein perfume "Moment". She has also modeled for the French luxury brand Louis Vuitton.

Her new film Match Point, directed by Woody Allen, opens in December of 2005. Johansson has received a Best Supporting Actress Golden Globe nomination for her performance.

Private life

Johansson has previously dated actors Benicio Del Toro and Jared Leto. She is currently dating actor Josh Hartnett. She has claimed on several occasions to be addicted to cheese, saying "My greatest vice is cheese. Nothing else reigns over my life." (The Observer Magazine December 28 2003)

Johansson has also revealed that she has no problem with her male co-stars seeing her breasts, as she considers them to be her favourite feature. "I'm proud of my girls. They're my charms, my feminine wiles", she said in a January 2005 interview for Harper's Bazaar.

She is sometimes erroneously credited as Scarlett Johansen or Scarlett Johanssen.
