Nomad software

The Television & Movie Wiki: for TV, celebrities, and movies.

NOMAD was developed by National CSS, Inc, in Stamford, CT, starting in 1973. It was made available only on NCSS's time-sharing system, VP/CSS, a proprietary version of what later became IBM's VM operating system. The first customer usage occurred in May of 1975, but Nomad was first officially released in October of '75. Nomad competed principally with Focus and Ramis as it expanded its base, becoming available under VM in '82 and under MVS in '83. Nomad is still sold and maintained today by a company known as Select Business Systems in Shelton, CT.

Do not confuse with Nomad Software (VOF), the Amsterdam-based software and services company that invented a metadata evolution management product called Cortex, originally codenamed Barbados, and later brought to market under the name CortexML (now owned by digitalML Ltd, in Staines, UK). At the time of writing this entry (October 2005) Nomad Software VOF is not trading commercially, while its managers take a long sabbatical.
