This is a list of the countries of the world sorted by area. Only sovereign states are numbered, but non-sovereign territories are also included for purposes of comparison (italicized). Areas include inland water bodies (lakes, reservoirs, rivers). Claims of parts of Antarctica by various countries are not included.
