Lee Young-Pyo is a South Korean football player, currently playing for Tottenham Hotspur F.C. in the English Premier division. He has previously played for Anyang LG Cheetahs (now FC Seoul) in the Korean K-League and then spent two years with PSV Eindhoven of the Netherlands and earned high acclaim from PSV Coach Guus Hiddink, who coached Lee and South Korea in the 2002 World Cup. He transferred to Spurs in August 2005.
He was born on April 23 1977, and his height is 5'10" or 177 centimeters. He attended Konkuk University in Seoul and began his pro career with the Anyang LG Cheetahs (now FC Seoul) of the Korean K-League. After a stellar 2002 World Cup, Lee followed Hiddink and teammate Park Ji-Sung to the Netherlands, where both flourished under Hiddink's guidance. Known for his endurance, technique, and ability in both defense and offense, Lee was known as the best left-back during his stay in the Dutch Football League. Lee and Park were instrumental in PSV Eindhoven's 2005 run to the Champions League semifinal, but AC Milan ruined the Dutch team's goal of making the final.
Despite PSV's desire to keep him, Lee moved to Tottenham, where he was an immediate hit and earned a spot on the Premier League's best eleven in his debut. Tottenham coach Martin Jol, at the time of his signing on August 31, 2005, touted him as "the best left-back in Holland, and one of the best left-backs in Europe today."
His trademarks include high stamina, elusiveness with the ball and lack of complaints. He is also widely known to be a devout Christian who spares no efforts in evangelizing to his teammates. His faith has given him a temperament that has allowed him to cope with the robust and physical nature of the EPL without getting into too many unnecessary altercations with opposing players.
He has yet to score a goal for Tottenham.fr:Lee Yong-Pyo ko:이영표 nl:Young-Pyo Lee
