Plot summary
Percy Jones (Mac) is a loan officer from Cranford, New Jersey, who is about to renew his vows with wife Marilyn (Scott). His eldest daughter, Theresa (Saldana) is coming home from New York with her new boyfriend, Simon (Kutcher).
Simon's first meeting with Theresa's parents is just before their 25th wedding anniversary, so naturally he's nervous. Percy turns out to be less than happy about Theresa's choice in a man, as she apparently neglected to inform him that Simon was white.
Percy is immediately suspicious of Simon, and he insists that he sleep in a separate room, going as far as sleeping in there with him to make sure he doesn't cause any trouble. He also gets some contacts to look into his background, as the family believes that he works for a prestigious bank, and are unaware that he has just quit his job.
Percy's overprotectiveness and constant bullying of Simon lands him in trouble with Marilyn, who believes that he's being too harsh. The resulting argument threatens to ruin their planned anniversary celebrations.
