Anal-oral contact

(Redirected from Analingus)

Image:Templar.jpg Anal-oral contact, also referred to as anilingus and colloquially known as rimming, rimjob, tossing the salad or 87 (compare 69), is a sexual activity involving contact between the anus or perianal areas of one person and the mouth of another. Anilingus (commonly misspelled as "analingus") is thus simultaneously anal sex and oral sex. It should be contrasted with anal sex followed by fellatio, which is often referred to as ass to mouth (arse to mouth in British English), A2M or ATM, but differentiated from anal-oral contact.

Culture

Anilingus can be practiced by humans of all sexual orientations. In both sexes, the human anus contains pleasurable nerve endings, similar to those found in the genitalia. One person usually runs his or her tongue around the rim of the anus; hence the terms, rimming and rimjob. Frequently, for added pleasure, and to loosen up the anus for anal sex, the tongue is inserted into the sphincter muscle of the anus.

The act of simultaneously performing anilingus and a hand job on a man is referred to as a rusty trombone.

It is also known as a "Reach Around," though that term can also mean a similar act by two men engaged in anal intercourse.

Health risks

From a health standpoint, anilingus may carry risks because of the presence of bacteria on or in the anus. Unprotected anilingus involves the risk of contracting sexually transmitted diseases, such as HIV/Aids, Genital Herpes and intestinal parasites.

The term "rim job" is used pejoratively as a noun, as in calling someone a "rim job".

Public notoriety

The Starr Report on the Lewinsky scandal made mention of anilingus between President Bill Clinton and intern, Monica Lewinsky. [1]

References to anilingus were made in the American sitcom, Sex and the City, where the character, Carrie, uses the euphemism, tuckus lingus, and in the first several minutes of the first episode of the British sitcom, Queer as Folk. It is also mentioned in the movie South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut.

Reference to "tossing the salad" is made in Chris Rock's comedy routine, Tossed Salad Man, as well as Kevin Smith's Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.

Prevalence in pornographic videos

Anilingus became something of a fad around 2003 or 2004 in American pornographic videos. Various explanations have been given for this trend, but one reason predominates: anilingus generally occurs in videos, targeted to both heterosexual and homosexual men, in which men dominate women, at least to a certain extent. However, in Germany where it has been popular since the 16th Century a falling trend is seen in the market for anilingus recently.

The increase in pornographic videos featuring anilingus is probably due to the fact that, while anal sex in movies was once relatively rare, anal sex is now quite common in pornographic videos marketed to heterosexual men. In order to continue to be shocking, such videos sometimes rely on more obscure sexual acts, that many would consider degrading, in order to elicit a strong reaction from their audience. Many men and women find these practices offensive, while others find them extremely erotic.
